About Us The Sunderland Agricultural Society is proud to present its 160th annual fall fair in 2011. This proud community tradition celebrates the community's rural roots. While the face of agriculture has changed a great deal over the years, many of the services and businesses situated in and around Sunderland continue to support the farming enterprise. The fair is the product of a workforce of community volunteers. It is truly amazing what a small community can accomplish when people work together. The educational value of the fair is recognized by the Durham District School Board that has continued the tradition of encouraging the children's participation in and attendance at the fair. Sunderland Agricultural Society The Sunderland Agricultural Society functions in accordance with its constitution. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 at the Sunderland Town Hall. In addition, there are many active committees that work throughout the year to plan our fair's many activities and exhibits. At the annual meeting held on the fourth Monday in November, members enjoy a wonderful meal and the society selects its executive officers. New members are always welcome and there are many volunteer tasks that call upon a variety of skills and talents. Exhibitors at the fair must be members of the Sunderland Agricultural Society. Annual membership is $6.00. In addition to entitlement to participate as an exhibitor at the fair, the membership card allows the holder one day's free admission to the fair. For those interested in the promotion of such fairs as a celebration of the traditions of rural Ontario, members of the Sunderland Agricultural Society are entitled to participate in the activities of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies. |
